What even is Slithy Toves?
What does it mean? How do you even say it?
First things first … you say it like slythee toves. That’s it – Slythee Toves…Slithy Toves. You got it!
Slithy Toves actually is the name of a badger-like character with a long corkscrew nose and a corkscrew tale. That gyre and Gimbles in the wabe!
These Slithy Toves are mentioned in the first line of the poem Jabberwocky written by Lewis Carol, genius behind Alice in Wonderland. Nonsensical nonsense poems and stories! That one day makes sense!
My name is Victoria Tovey and this business is named Slithy Toves as my family were great fans of this poem. Fed to us often by my stepfather Mr G, headmaster and english scholar. Whether he was a big fan of the Jabberwocky (obvs) or if it was directed at my brother and I because of our surname – Tovey. My G family suggested that if ever I were to own a business, I should call it Slithy Toves. There was never a question? I did!!
I love it, I love that for ten years no one really knows what it’s all about. Sometimes, just sometimes people recite it, mention ….. mention snippets of the poem in emails, or send me pictures of a Slithy Tove…
That Makes my day! My week!
It’s time to let the Jabberwocky loose! This is it…
